Ricky De Elias has been training in the Bel Canto classical vocal style for the past nine and a half years. During this time he has honed his vocal skills being mentored by the wonderful operatic lyric tenor Joseph Raso (Opera Australia) Who has been responsible for mentoring and finalising Ricky’s mellifluous tonal quality.

This show is set to highlight the tenor vocal instrument which requires 3 main elements: Squillo, (bright ring), Chiaroscuro (light and dark tonal shades) and finally Appoggio (breath support).

Utilising and coordinating this technique will see Ricky perform a selection of classical pieces and tenor arias from the likes of Tosda (Puccinni), Pagliacci (Leoncaallo) and L’elisir D’amore (Donizetti) to name a few PLUS neapolitan and tenor repertoire staples: Granada, O Sole Mio and Ave Maria

You will be moved on this musical journey!

Sydney’s Inner West-based Kid Hank brings the vibrancy of the New Orleans French quarter to your local.

The joyful rendition of Nola street music gives its audience a reminder of a time gone by. Having played the style for years, the band understands the ins and outs of the music and how to best recreate it for a modern audience. Despite being a traditional-inspired group, watching Kid Hank play live isn’t traditional at all.

Henry, alongside his father, have composed songs in ways that scream ’20s and ’30s but still have a modern twist. Roaring intertwining horns soar across the chugging railway-like rhythm section to bring you an old but familiar sound. Being most at home playing on their acoustic instruments, the band happily walks down the street or the aisles of any concert they play.

Kid Hank uses repertoire consisting of a mix between creole-clave based jazz, as well as a standard steamboat swing. If you’re lucky, an old rag-time tune might be thrown in to add a little spice to the swimming pool of musical gumbo. Whatever style it is, it’s guaranteed to surprise and get you dancing, and maybe even generate an occasional tear.

An uplifting musical comedy playing with intersections between race, nationality, and gender.
The best joke Josh ever told was during a terrorist attack in Paris in 2015. Josh will tell this joke, other jokes, and sing songs containing jokes.

Josh Cake (any pronouns) has external identities of brown, Australian, man. All of these are scams and Josh feels no internal connection to any of them.

However, Josh is in this game for the money and power.

Josh is sticking with Australian for the strong passport, sticking with man for the numerous benefits, and sticking with brown because that one is too hard to modify.

Josh will consider other options if offered a better deal.

★★★★★ “Josh Cake sets a new standard for cabaret” – The Recruiting Officer

★★★★★ “A stunningly intelligent performer … bold, absurd, and committed” – Red Kangaroo

★★★★★ “A masterful display of meticulously timed hilarity” – The Bullock

Presented as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival
September 28 – 30 @ 7:30pm

BOOKING LINK: https://sydneyfringe.com/events/the-tale-of-the-wolf/

Fictional autobiography of a woman – half wolf, set within a fictional history of wolves in Australia, weaves comic domestic anecdotes with Angela Carter stories through physical theatre and storytelling.

The performance works through the body to dispel the shadows that lie between the leaves of stories we tell. The performance is a darkly twisted tale that seeks to reconcile us with our own natures. The performance speaks back to psychoanalysis from the point of view of an animal, restoring the wolf to its place in mythology as a figure of transformation.

The Tale of the Wolf was first developed in residency with Odin Teatret in 2017, supported by the Inner West Council’s Edge Spaces program in collaboration with Lucy Watson (Mads Clove) and presented as a work in progress at Teatr Brama’s Human Mosaic festival (Goleniow, Poland 2018).

World premiere at Sydney Fringe Festival in 2023.

*ACCESSIBILITY: The Meraki Mainstage theatre / Green Room bar is located on the second level of Meraki and is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible at present. It is accessed via two separate flights of stairs from the ground floor (the second flight including a corner half way up), each of which has a handrail.

Pure Bossa is a musical project on a mission to take our audience to a warm sunset on the beaches of Ipanema Rio though it’s melodic Brazilian Bossa musical roots. Bossa Nova is a jazzy musical style from Rio de Janeiro, designed by big names like Joao Gilberto, Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim, Gal Costa during the 1970’s to bring out the peace&love message to South America.
Nowadays, Bossa Nova is a well know genre amongst acclaimed musicians around the world. It is considered a smooth tropical balm to the soul with its soothing voices and rhythmic tones. Our music looks to transport our listeners back to that golden bossa era when the new sound was kicking off in Rio in the 70s.

Asphalt Words and Ocean Dreams (or Asphalt for short) is Sydney’s latest poetry open mic, hosted by Albert Lin. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got something to share, or just want to sit back and listen to some great poetry, there is a space for you here. Close your eyes, let the sound of tires grinding on bitumen fade into the lapping of waves on sand. Let go of the day you just had and sit back with a drink in your hand, and hear the call of the ocean in a place it has never kissed.

Asphalt goes for 2 hours, from 7:30 to 9:30, with an intermission in between. Each performer gets 3 minutes at the mic. Don’t worry about quality; you have already made your mark just by coming. If you need liquid courage, or want some of the best chips in Sydney, the bar is right there. Come join our dream.

Something Wicked presents

THE ITALIAN COMEDY

by Steven Hopley & Alexander Gibbs

Placebo is the owner of the most unfashionable fashion store in Venice, holding out against the rising tide of the capitalist Cello and his cut-rate clothing factory. On the plus side, it gives him time to play matchmaker to his young friend, Folio. But when there is unrest at the factory, and Folio’s revolutionary sister Messia is involved, Placebo gets more than he bargained for when he agrees to shelter the fugitive in his store – disguised as a mannequin.

Lovingly hand-made by award-winning playwrights Steven Hopley and Alexander Gibbs, influenced by recipes handed down from commedia dell’arte and the Marx Brothers, this spicy new comedy is fresh from the oven with extra cheese – make sure you get a slice while its hot!

Starring: Carla Field, James Hartley, Brendan Layton, Logan McArthur, Rosie Meader, Tess O’Sullivan, Nicholas Richard & Emilia Stubbs Grigoriou

Directed by Steven Hopley
